Deposit versus betting turnover

A player loads $50 into an account and places 60 bets of $5. Total turnover is $300, six times the deposit, because winnings and returned stakes get wagered again. At a 3% disadvantage the expected loss is $9. It is not 3% of $50. The sequence of bets, not the opening balance, sets the exposure.

Game mathematics applies the edge to turnover for exactly this reason. Any clear account of what house edge means starts with the base the percentage is measured against: some games quote it per opening Ante, others per unit wagered across the whole hand. Counting later raises in turnover while using an Ante-based percentage mixes two accounting systems.

The $9 is an average. The actual balance after 60 bets could be above $50, zero, or anything between, and the player might stop early.
